Oh, Look! It's Snowing!

The first snow of the year for us came at about 11:30 this morning. It was only a dusting, but it was beautiful to watch. It has not seemed like winter this year with warm days and NO SNOW. I wish it would snow so I can my sledding in for this year! ;-)

This is very, very simple, yet very elegant. Here is how to do it:

1. Take the top pieces of your hair and section them of into three even sections.

2. Begin french braid down the side of your head while gradually incorporating small pieces of hair.

3. Finish of by incorporating final pieces of hair and doing a regular braid with remaining hair.

Don't get discouraged if it doesn't look right for the first five times! ;-) It took me a while to get used to french braiding.

Modesty Meets Fashion

In our culture today, fashion is basically immodesty. It doesn't have to be like that, though. We can be modest and fashionable...

"Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body." 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Modest and fashionable can be the same! Here are some tips:

Try mixing and matching skirts and shirts. You will find that colors can and will compliment each other.
Always wear the color that looks the least good on you below your waist (aka a skirt or pants)
Wear colors that compliment your hair color (Blondes- Blue, Green, Pink, Red, etc. Browns-Anything, really! It depend on the color of your skin Reds- Brown, Dark Green, Pruple, etc.)
Try a new hairstyle with an old outfit and see how different it will look!

Take a look at the adorable (but waaay expensive) dresses from modcloth...

This book is truly a wonderful treat! It is about Miriam, a young orphan who's parents died as Christian Martyrs, for such was the cruel treatment of Christians in Rome A.D. 70. Miriam grows up with Nou, her late Mothers former servant. Nou is faithful, and loves Miriam more then anything else. But on Rebecka's (Miriam's Mother) death bed, she bids that Nou brings Miriam up in the Christian faith. So Nou takes charge of the Child, and brings her up in the peaceful village of the Essen's. Here Miriam grows up with her constant playmate, Caleb. But when 19, Miriam can no longer stay with the Essen's. So, she must move to Jerusalem and live with her Grandfather, Benoni, who is a stubborn Jew. She soon learns to love him, as he does her. But in a few years of her stay, the destruction of Jerusalem takes place, as it was prophesied in the Bible.

The story takes off, and through many tribulations does Miriam go through, but she is constant on relying on Christ, and is set on not being Unequally Yoked in marriage with a non-believer.

Will Miriam survive this Terrible years in Jerusalem? Will her True love, who has captured her heart Find Christ?

This was SO good!!!! It is another favorite on my shelf!! If you like good historical fiction, as well as adventure, and a bit of clean Romance this would be a great choice! As I love all three, I absolutely LOVED this book!!

Courageous: another Sherwood Film that was released on September 30, 2011. Sherwood has most definitely come far since Flywheel, which I love. I loved this movie, its sad parts, and its parts where the theatre errupted into laughter. If you haven't seen this yet, you need to! It is a wonderful movie. Thank you so much for hosting a giveaway, Yarns and Strings! Let me tell you a little about Yarns and Strings...

Yarns and Strings Weaving was started about 4 years ago when my sister and I purchased a weaving loom at a garage sale. We had it for a while, but never used it, until June of 2007. Trying to decide what to give Daddy for Father's Day. We made him a pillow from our weaving loom. Those first pillows we made were terrible! (in fact, if you look far enough through our posts... we posted some pictures of them... ) But weaving those pillows became a love for us.... we always lookedfor free time to try and make another one.And although we still look back and laugh at them, practice makes perfect, and to this day, my sister and I are still thinking of waysto improve and expand.
We enjoy working together on each order to make your purchase just right for YOU.

Zoku Pop

We have been having a great time with our new Zoku Popsicle maker! Makes popsicles in 8 mintues or less!

You can add any fruit juice (so far we've only tried Cran-Grape and Orange),yogurt (with a little milk added in it to make it easier to pour), fresh fruit, and even chocolate milk. Its much more healthier, cheaper, and more fun than store-bought popsicles. :)

Peru 2012?

Last year, Emily, Daddy, and I went to Peru on a mission trip for a week. It was a fantastic expirience. I enjoyed the people there so much. I hoped we would be able to go to Peru again this year, but It was obviously not God's will. :) We have recieved news that there may be a possible trip to Peru in 2012. I am sooo thrilled at the thought of going back to Peru. Though, this time we wouldn't go to Lima, but Cusco. Anyway, I'm posting this to ask to you to pray for a possible Peru 2012.

"Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God." 2 Corinthians 5:20

Tangled...a twist for Rapunzel

Tangled, recently released, was a cute twist to the classic fairytale Rapunzel.

Tangled features several cute animal characters. My favorite being Pascal. :)

Maximus...well...his character was different. :) A horse acting like a ...dog? It was funny though. :)

Overall, this was an adorable movie! I'm glad we bought when it came out.

Recipe Week-Day #5 and...a predicament

Day #5 Dessert :)

Frozen Peanut Butter Pie

Chocolate Crunch Crust

1/3 cup butter or margarine

1 (6 ounce) package semi-sweet chocolate chips

2 1/2 cups oven-toasted rice cereal

Pie filling

1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 (14 ounce) can Sweetened Condensed Milk

3/4 cup Creamy Peanut Butter

2 tablespoons lemon juice (optional)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup whipping cream, whipped

Chocolate Fudge Spoonable Ice Cream Topping

Chocolate Crunch Crust

In heavy saucepan, over low heat, melt butter or margarine and semi-sweet chocolate chips. Remove from heat; gently stir in oven-toasted rice cereal until completely coated. Press on bottom and up side to rim of

buttered 9-inch or 10-inch pie plate. Chill 30 minutes.

Pie filling

In large bowl, beat cream cheese until fluffy; gradually beat in sweetened condensed milk then peanut butter until smooth. Stir in lemon juice and vanilla. Fold in whipped cream. Turn into prepared crust.

Drizzle topping over pie. Freeze 4 hours or until firm. Return leftovers to freezer.

And about forever feminie...

Well....To make a long story short, my mother delivered some supplies to my older sister, who is at college. She accidentally took the camera. Soooo, instead of going on with forever feminine, i'm going to postpone the rest of forever feminine. But, I will still giveaway the drawing set on MONDAY. The last day to enter is on SATURDAY. :) Thanks for understanding!

Forever Feminine-Day #4 and Recipe Week- Day #4

Day #4 Breakfast

All Bran Muffins

1 c. Bran Buds

1 c. boiling water

1/4 c. butter, melted

1 1/2 c. sugar

1 1/2 tsp. baking soda

1 1/2 tsp. baking powder

3 eggs

2 c. buttermilk

2 1/2 c. flour

1 c. all bran

Mix together Bran Buds and water; add shortening, sugar, eggs, and buttermilk to mix. Mix together flour and all bran and add to above. Stir enough to mix. Bake in 400 degree oven for 20 minutes in greased muffin tin. Batter keeps in refrigerator 2 months. Do not stir next time when using, just take up by spoonful to muffin tin. Recipe may be doubled. (We usually double it and freeze)

Day #3 Salad

Italian Pasta Salad

8 ounces rotini pasta

2 1/2 cups frozen mixed vegetables

1/2 cup diced Cheddar cheese
1/3 cup pitted black olives (optional)

1 cup Italian-style salad dressing

Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain, and rinse with cold water until completely cool. In large bowl, combine pasta, vegetables, cheese, and olives. Toss well with dressing. Serve chilled or at room temperature.

Day #3 Tuesday

Forever Feminine-Day #2 and Recipe Week-Day #2

Day #2 Bread & Soup

Oatmeal Pan Bread

Bread

1-1/2 cups boiling water

1 cup old-fashioned oats

2 packages (1/4 ounce each) active dry yeast

1/2 cup warm water

1/4 cup sugar

3 tablespoons butter, softened

2 teaspoons salt

1 egg, lightly beaten

4 to 4-3/4 cups all-purpose flour

Topping

1/4 cup butter, melted, divided

2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

1 teaspoon dried basil

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

In a small bowl, combine boiling water and oats. In a bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water.(Make sure the water is not too warm, or else the heat will kill the yeast) Add sugar, butter, salt, egg, oat mixture and 2 cups of flour; beat until smooth. Add enough remaining flour to form a soft dough.

Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 45 minutes.

Punch dough down and press evenly into a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan. With very sharp knife, cut diagonal lines 1-1/2 in. apart completely through dough. Repeat in opposite direction, creating a diamond patter. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.

Redefine pattern by gently poking along cut lines with a knife tip. Brush with 2 tablespoons melted butter. Bake at 375° for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, combine Parmesan cheese, basil, oregano and garlic powder. Brush bread with remaining butter; sprinkle with cheese mixture. Bake for 5 minutes. Loosely cover with foil and bake 5 minutes longer. Serve warm. Yield: 8-10 servings.

Broccoli Cheese Soup

3 cups of water

2 tsp. of chicken stock

1 tsp. of seasoned salt

1 tsp. of pepper

a pinch of nutmeg (yes, you read that right! :-)

16 oz. of frozen broccoli

1/2 cup of chopped onion, fresh or frozen

1/4 cup of flour

1/3 cup of butter, melted

3 cups of milk, warmed

1 1/2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese

Boil water and add spices. Add vegetables and simmer for 10 minutes, or until vegetables are tender. Melt butter and add flour. Whisk together to form a paste and add to soup. Whisk in soup to dissolve. Add warmed milk, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and add cheese, stirring constantly. Keep warm until served. This soup can be frozen.

Day #2 Monday

I went to swim practice today. You most certainly be feminine and be active! ;) I won't post a picture of

my sport pants, but I'm posting pictures of my hair-do and my shirt.

Forever Feminine-Day #1 and Recipe Week-Day #1

Day #1 Drink

Lemonade

1 cup sugar (can reduce to 3/4 cup)

1 cup water (for the simple syrup)

1 cup lemon juice

3 to 4 cups cold water (to dilute)

Make simple syrup by heating the sugar and water in a small saucepan until the sugar is dissolved completely.

While the sugar is dissolving, use a juicer to extract the juice from 4 to 6 lemons, enough for one cup of juice.

Add the juice and the sugar water to a pitcher. Add 3 to 4 cups of cold water, more or less to the desired strength. Refrigerate 30 to 40 minutes. If the lemonade is a little sweet for your taste, add a little more straight lemon juice to it. Serve with ice, sliced lemons.

Day #1 Sunday

Glaucia: The Greek Slave

I'm on spring break, and spring break means time to read new books. I read this book first, and really enjoyed it! Its written in the "thee", "thou", and "thine" language, but it is a very encouraging story of the conversion from the Roman religion to Christianity...while Nero was emperor. Here is a ~~little~~ review of it.

Glaucia: The Greek Slave by Emma Leslie
Following the death of their Epicurean father, young siblings Glaucia and Laon are removed from Greece and taken to Rome. The proceeds from their sale will be applied to a portion of their father's debt. Young Glaucia is sold into the service of the Gracchi family as a slave to their daughter, while Laon manages to escape.Laon vows to rescue his sister from the danger she faces as a slave owned by Romans, driven on by fear on his sisters behalf of the vicious punishments employed by Romans towards slaves who disobey.
While seeking a means and way to both find and deliver his sister from slavery Laon encounters a variety of strange individuals who speak to him about a God whose love extends even to slaves. After returning to Greece with her Roman owners, Glaucia is confronted with the gospel there as well. As the light of Christ begins to dawn in their hearts, those around them are affected by their witness and begin to seek the face of their Creator in turn.
Shortly after the death of Christ and the expansion of His church, Laon encounters Paul -- author of much of the New Testament -- sharing the gospel from his house arrest in Rome. Likewise, the epistles he wrote to the churches abroad are newly penned, delivered and shared between believers. As such, Glaucia coincides with a time period in which the New Testament was still being written, an exciting prospect. Will Glaucia be rescued?

Snickerdoodle Cake w/ Buttercream Frosting

As promised, here is the Snickerdoodle cake recipe. It will also appear on my cooking blog. Enjoy!

Cake
1 pkg. white cake mix
1 C whole milk (skim milk works fine, too)
1 stick butter, melted
3 large eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
Cinnamon Buttercream Frosting
1 Stick butter, at room temp.
3-3/4 C confectioners' sugar
3 Tbsp. milk (or more)
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. cinnamon

Cake
Preheat oven to 350. Grease and flour two 9 in. round cake pans.

Place cake mix, milk, melted butter, eggs, vanilla, and cinnamon inlarge mixing bowl. Mix for 3 min. scraping sides as needed. Divide batter between pans. Place in oven side by side. Bake until they are golden brown. About 27-29 min. Remove from oven and cool for 10 min. After 10 min. invert them onto another rack and allow to cool completely. Meanwhile, prepare Cinnamon Buttercream Frosting. Frost cake. Place in refrigerator until the frosting sets, 20 min. Keep refrigerated.

Frosting

Place butter in large mixing bowl. Blend with an electric mixer onlow until fluffy, 30 seconds. Add conf. sugar, 3 Tbsp.. milk and vanilla. Blend on low until sugar is incorporated, 1 min. Add cinnamon, Increase speed to medium and beat until light and fluffy, 1 min. more. Blend in up to 1 tablespoon milk if the frosting seems too stiff.

Today I celebrated my 15th birthday. I'm so thankful I was born into a Christian family, and that I have such amazing, wonderful parents. I also have 3 incredible siblings whom I love very much. What would I do without them? Here are some pictures.

Keep it Classy- Day 6

Today, I'm not going to post my outfit. Instead, i'm posting some pictures of some jewelry that I like. Which ones are your favorite?

I think my mommy gave this bracelet to me a while ago. I
usually wear this one in the summer or spring.

I've classified this one as a "winter" bracelet. It looks good

with white, red, and black.

Since this was given to me by my grandmother,
I wear it often. I usually wear it in winter, spring, fall, or summer!

Today I didn't go anywhere, except for a brief visit to the grocery store. :-) But, here is what I would have worn IF I went somewhere.

I wore jeans, but I don't have a picture of them.

A red knit sweater and black checked scarf. It is more
of a Christmas outfit, but I like so much, I would have worn it. :)

Again, ballet flats. Very feminine and comfortable.

Only a month away!

Spring is only about a month away! (I do this every year.) I get spring fever about February or March. :)

I'm just a little tired of snow and cold weather; however, it's an excellent excuse to stay indoors and curl up with a book. :)

I guess I just get a "craving" for warm weather, cool breezes, GREEN grass, and beautiful flowers.

Sooo...if you have been at Grace Place this time of year, you probably have seen a post somewhat like this. :-p

Hi everyone!

Katie over at stepping heveanward suggested an idea to me. Her idea was to devote a blog solely to cooking and recipes. I love cooking! But, I most certainly cannot handle doing 3 blogs at one time! Soooooo....I've thought about it, and i've finally decided. Instead of a photography blog, i'm going to start a cooking blog. "Grace Place Photography" will simply change to "Cooking with Miss Grace" or "Grace Place Cooking. (Which title do you like better?) Soooooo....visit the new blog by Miss Grace.

Also, the blog will not be ready for another few days or so. I will tell you when it is ready! :)

Santa Fe Soup

Santa Fe Soup (Also known as taco soup)

This is sooooo easy, and freezes well! Perfect on a cold day. FYI- This is a double batch. If you are making for just a few people, just add half of everything.

2 lbs lean ground beef
1 large white onions, chopped (I sometimes use frozen onions, because onions make me cry! :-p)
2 pkgs dry ranch dressing (6 Tablespoons of the ranch powder)
2 pkgs taco seasoning
1 - 16 oz can of Bush's mild chilli beans
1 - 16 oz can kidney beans
1 - 16 oz can pinto beans
1 - 16 oz can black beans
1 - 16 oz can diced tomatoes
1 - 16 oz can Rotel tomatoes
2 - 16 oz cans white shoepeg corn
2 c. water (I use 1 c chicken stock and 1 c beef stock when I have them)
Simply simmer, decrease heat, then serve.

Garnishes: sour cream, green onions, black olives, Shredded cheese, tortilla chips or corn chips

Starbuck's "Top Secret" Cranberry Bliss Bars

I made these back at Christmas. They're a perfect blend of tangy cranberries and sweet white chocolate. I can't quite make them like Starbucks, though. :)

Cake

1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
1 1/4 cups light brown sugar, packed
3 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 teaspoon ginger
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup diced dried cranberries
6 ounces white chocolate, cut into chunks

Frosting
4-ounces cream cheese, softened
3 cups powdered sugar
4 teaspoons lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup diced dried cranberries

Drizzled Icing
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 tablespoon milk
2 teaspoons vegetable shortening

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Make cake by beating butter and brown sugar together with an electric mixer until smooth. Add eggs, vanilla, ginger, and salt and beat well. Gradually mix in flour until smooth. Mix 3/4 cup diced dried cranberries and white chocolate into the batter by hand. Pour batter into a well-greased 9x13" baking pan. Use a spatula to spread the batter evenly across the pan. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until cake is light brown on the edges. Allow cake to cool. Make frosting by combining softened cream cheese, 3 cups powdered sugar, lemon juice and vanilla extract in a medium bowl with an electric mixer until smooth. When the cake has cooled, use a spatula to spread frosting over the top of the cake.Sprinkle 1/4 cup of diced cranberries over the frosting on the cake.Whisk together 1/2 cup powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon milk, and shortening. Drizzle icing over the cranberries in a sweeping motion or use a pastry bag with a fine tip to drizzle frosting across the top of the cake.Allow cake to sit for several hours, then slice the cake lengthwise (the long way) through the middle. Slice the cake across the width three times making a total of eight rectangular slices. Slice each of those rectangles diagonally creating 16 triangular slices.
